Graduate Research Awards
Graduate Research and Dalalian Awards are both provided to acknowledge outstanding achievement in graduate research. These awards consist of a one-time cash bonus of between $2000 and $4000. Graduate Research Awards are available to all students. Dalalian Awards are only available to students whose research has an important organic or synthetic component.
Eligibility & Selection Criteria: Any full-time graduate student working in the Chemistry Department is eligible to apply for these awards. Applications are reviewed by the Graduate Student Awards Committee, who select winners based primarily on research accomplishments. Faculty recommendations play a key role in assessing a student's research achievements .
IMPORTANT : GRAD STUDENTS WHO WILL NOT BE REGISTERED FOR SPRING 2010 ARE NOT ELIGIBLE TO APPLY.
There is no restriction on the number of times a student may apply for or receive a research award. However, previous awardees will be expected to demonstrate significant new achievements since the previous award. (In this case a student's research statement should outline what work has been accomplished since the last award.)
As a guide to your application and to point out some of the important criteria, please note that two strong indications of research accomplishments are primary authorship on peer-reviewed manuscripts and presentations of research results at scientific meetings. We ask that you be quite specific as to your role in the work when listing publications and presentations as you will see on the attached forms. Successful applications in the past generally result from applicants with at least one primary authorship of a manuscript in the past year (or two secondary authorships) and/or a strong record of participation and presentation at major scientific meetings.
