The Department of Chemistry reviews all applications that are submitted via this website. In order to be reviewed, your application must be submitted by the deadline. Once you submit the application, the links for recommendation letters will be dispersed.
We ask that you do not complete the Graduate School application at this time. You will be notified when to complete and pay the fee at a later date (fee is NON-REFUNDABLE).

INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS (deadline for submission: Friday, December 13, 2013):
1. Create a Friends of Penn State Digital Identity, complete this only once and remember
it so you can log-back into the system. Click here to reset your password or userid:

2. Chemistry Department Application (use your PSU Friends account created in step #1)
3. Three Letters of Recommendation - this information is entered within our application
4. Official Undergraduate Transcript - one original copy
Official Graduate Transcript (if applicable) - one original copy
Transcripts should be mailed to:

5. GRE General Scores and Subject Scores (valid for 5 yrs from
test date). Please scan and
email (dmc6@psu.edu) the actual scores sent to you from ETS. General GRE test scores are
required, subject scores are optional. All GRE scores will be verified by the University system
before entered into your application by the department.

6. TOEFL iBT (internet based) test only and it can be no more than 2 years old (Code: 62
Chem) Please scan and email (dmc6@psu.edu) the actual scores sent to you from ETS.
IF you did NOT receive your B.S./B.A. from an U.S. Institution, you MUST submit an iBT score.
If you are receiving your MS degree (within the US and the degree is NOT CONFERRED, you
must provide an iBT score. If the MS degree is being completed outside the U.S., you must
provide an iBT score. Exception are - see *note below.
Minimum overall score for consideration is 100 with a speaking minimum score of 25 (no more
than 2 years old).
*NOTE: International applicants exempt from the TOEFL requirement are those who have received a baccalaureate or a masters degree from a college/university/institution in any of the following: Australia, Belize, British Caribbean and British West Indies, Canada (except Quebec), England, Guyana, Republic of Ireland, Liberia, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Scotland, the United States and Wales.

Additional Information for all prospectives:
Please do not send extra materials (i.e. publications, vitae) with your application.
One official transcript from all institutions of higher education attended, both undergraduate and graduate.
International applicants must submit official or attested university records, with certified translations if the records are not in English. Notarized copies are not sufficient.
