Beth Essinger-Hileman
Beth is a third-year graduate student working with Ray Schaak. Beth’s hometown is Masontown, PA and she received a B.S. in Chemistry and Forensic Science from the University of New Haven, CT. Her current research involves using bacteriophage M13 and phage display to identify material specific peptides and to probe the degree of specificity that these peptides have for the target material. Beth also enjoys sharing her love of science with younger students through outreach opportunities with various organizations.

Ray Schaak
Ray Schaak, a Professor of Chemistry has been here at Penn State since 2007. The Schaak research group focuses on developing new chemical strategies for the synthesis of nanoscale solid-state materials and applying these materials to problems at the forefront of modern materials research.
