- Penn State Chemistry Honors its First Ph.D. Graduates - The first Penn State Chemistry Ph.D. degrees were awarded in 1928.
The four graduates were Kenneth H. Goode, Gregg M. Evans, James E.
Snyder, and Frederick A Steele. All went on to successful careers in
academia and industry.
An 80th Anniversary Celebration was held on August 18. at the
Pennsylvania Convention Center during the National Meeting of the
American Chemical Society. Featured at the celebration was a new
exhibit highlighting the four graduates and the era in which they
studied at Penn State.

- Weinreb Reception - In August 2006 the Department hosted a special
symposium to commemorate Steve Weinreb's 65th birthday. The symposium
was organized by Steve's former students and consisted of a day of
lectures by distinguished organic and biological chemists.

- Emeritus Faculty Honored- On November 11, 2006 we celebrated the Department's heritage at a breakfast reception for the emeritus faculty. Gathering in our new building before the football game with Temple, nearly forty faculty (current and retired) and alumni caught up on news and events. Following the breakfast, Kristen Yarmey delivered a talk on some of the illustrious chemists who contributed to the making of the current department.
